Bench Clearing Brawl: Was it Worth it?

Posted: April 12, 2013 by B in MLB

What’s your reaction to the Dodgers/Padres bench clearing brawl last night? Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke will be lost for a significant amount of time with a broken collarbone and Padres Carlos Quentin will surely be hit with a multigame suspension. Quentin suggested that there is a “history” between the two and he clearly lost his cool when he charged the mound. It was reported that after the game Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp confronted Quentin and had to be separated by police, security and Padres pitcher Clayton Richard. Greinke will be a significant lost for that Dodger rotation, will the Giants seize the opportunity to take over the national league west?

I think the injury to Greinke is an unfortunate one, but Quentin’s reaction was obviously a sign of frustration. He was already hit by a pitch in this series against the Dodgers on Tuesday’s and had to sit out Wednesday’s game, so he is already playing cautious. I don;t think there is “history” between the two, just Quentin trying to stand up for himself and his place in the batters box.

At the end of the day the Dodger players and fans are upset because now they have to look for another #2 pitcher to step in for Greinke, while the Padres are just trying to stay relevant in the NL West.

Quentin also said that Greinke said something to him which sparked his response. Not sure how to take that, but it’s the third time Quentin has been hit by Greinke. I agree with you in regards to the Dodgers and fans, that’s a $147 million dollar investment now on the shelf. I think the catcher should’ve done more to diffuse the situation, he should know who is pitcher is and should’ve done more to protect him.

  2. Eman says:

I agree on the catcher bit. That is weird that he didn’t protect his pitcher a lot better.

As for Greinke, I think he should take a summer camp at the NOlan Ryan school of Pitchers winning fights on the mound! Maybe this is why Robin Ventura went to play in the NL. LOL

“Dadda, Dadda Dadda, Dadda, SPORTCENTERS…..the place for sports!” Where’s the post about the loser Knicks who lost against the Bulls! Where is the ‘K’ in J.I.M?? LOL

    • B says:

What’s crazy is that Greinke has anxiety in social settings but many of this teammates say he is the first to go at it in situations like this. Greinke shouldn’t have tried to “sumo” start the altercation. And the catcher had two chances to stop this!

Our bloggers are on it! You looking for a gig? LOL

  4. Eman says:

Well you know Mike has a lot of time on his hands right now so maybe you should add him to the list of bloggers.

    • Mike V says:

Lol I don’t think I qualify for a blogger since I’m not an ALL NY fan base lol. But nonetheless you guys are doing a great job!

  5. Eman says:

Just throwing out suggestions for you and your bloggers. But I want to know what you all think of AJ Hawk saying that Aaron Rodgers is one of the best players in the World and not being bothered if he gets paid a billion dollars.

Being a Yankee fan I know this might sound ridiculous, but athletes are getting paid an insane amount of money that I feel is undeserving for what they do.

  6. Ru-daddy says:

Greinke shouldn’t throw at people if he can’t defend himself when people are charging mound. Nor should he talk crap at hitters who are staring him down after he just plunked them (especially ones that have almost 60 pounds on him.)

    • B says:

Interesting though, they have always said that Greinke has been the type of pitcher that still will brush batters back and has that “old school” pitcher mentality. don’t crowd the plate.

  7. Ru-daddy says:

You are only worth what some one is willing to pay you.
